Pillow Care Guide — How to Wash and Maintain Fabric Pillows in Nigeria

Premium pillows deserve proper care. Here's a practical care guide built for Nigerian conditions.

The Washing Rules by Fabric

Cotton covers: Machine wash on gentle cycle, cold water, mild detergent. Tumble dry low or air dry.

Linen covers: Gentle machine wash or hand wash, lukewarm water. Air dry flat — never tumble dry linen. It will shrink.

Silk covers: Hand wash only in cool water with gentle detergent. Never wring — press water out gently with a clean towel. Dry flat in shade.

Faux Fur covers: Gentle machine wash, cold water. Air dry only. Never use heat. Brush gently with a soft brush when dry.

Polyester covers: Machine wash warm, tumble dry low. Most forgiving fabric for care.

The Nigerian-Specific Maintenance Schedule

Monthly: Air all pillow inserts in indirect sunlight. Fluff and reshape all inserts.

Every 2–3 months: Wash all removable covers. Wipe non-removable pillows with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

Harmattan season (Oct–Feb): Dust pillow surfaces weekly. Consider light fabric covers over decorative pillows when not entertaining.

Rainy season (Apr–Oct): Keep pillows away from open windows during rain. Increase airing frequency.

Storage

If rotating seasonal pillows, store clean, dry inserts in breathable cotton bags — never plastic, which traps moisture and causes mildew.
