A properly layered bed is the easiest way to make a bedroom look expensive. It takes under five minutes once you know the system.
The 5-Layer Bed Formula
Layer 1 — Sleeping Pillows: Your actual sleeping pillows in plain white or cream pillowcases. Two for a double/queen, four for a king.
Layer 2 — Euro Squares: Large square pillows (60x60cm) in front of the sleeping pillows. Same colour as your duvet or bedding.
Layer 3 — Standard Decorative Squares: Two 50x50cm pillows in a complementary colour or subtle pattern. Your first design statement.
Layer 4 — Accent Squares or Rectangles: One or two smaller decorative pillows (40x40cm or 30x50cm). Bold colour, interesting texture — silk, faux fur, Ankara print. This is your personality layer.
Layer 5 — Bolster (Optional): A cylindrical or small rectangular pillow lying horizontally in the very front. Adds a hotel-suite finish.
Nigerian Bedroom Considerations
Many Nigerian bedrooms are warm — choose breathable fabrics (cotton, linen) for sleeping pillows and save silk or faux fur for purely decorative layers that come off before sleep.
The Morning Routine
A layered bed only works if you remake it each morning. Each layer takes 30 seconds. The habit is the investment.
